Maria, a Guatemalan activist, in 1976 is forced to flee her country due to the corrupt dictatorship that has already killed her partner - and she has no choice but to leave their newborn son behind. Ten years later, as Mexico is hosting the World Cup and Maria is preparing to expose the crimes of the Guatemalan dictatorship she fled, her son joins her in exile - forcing a choice between motherhood and her cause.
A gripping film looking at the many identities people navigate between - mother, activist, refugee. And at the impact that one’s choices have on those they love and who depend on them.

The London Migration Film Festival, which is holding its 10th annual edition from 27 November-3 December 2025, aims to challenge the narrow rhetoric on migration that often sees migration, and people on the move, framed in reductive and dehumanising binaries.
