Bar Trash: FRANKENHOOKER (1990) with Dan Frye In Conversation with Loose Willis

Running time: 160 mins

After a bizarre gardening accident, a science geek re-builds his fiancée from the body parts of sex workers…

"A TERRIFYING TALE OF SLUTS AND BOLTS."

Cult film night BAR TRASH continues with its 11th sensational season — SYNTHETIC FLESH! — a tribute to more than 100 years of monster makeup FX.

After making horror history with BASKET CASE (1982) and BRAIN DAMAGE (1988), the incomparable Frank Henenlotter unleashed FRANKENHOOKER, the most sex worker positive transmutation of Mary Shelley’s FRANKENSTEIN you’ll ever need to see.

After accidentally killing the love of his life Elizabeth Shelley (Patty Mullen), Jeffrey Franken (James Lorinz) decides to reanimate her with the help of a drug named Supercrack and the body parts of a dozen Manhattan sex workers. FRANKENHOOKER is a bad taste triumph that revels in sublime camp, gloopy gore, and neon-soaked dreamscapes with Patty Mullen iconic as the title character (“Wanna date?”).

We are stupidly proud to be joined for this special screening by special effects makeup artist Dan Frye who worked on the original production. Dan’s career spans more than 40 years starting on projects with Larry Cohen (A RETRUN TO SALEM’S LOT and IT’S ALIVE III) and Frank Henenlotter (BRAIN DAMAGE and BASKET CASE 2) before later career highlights in the UK including SHAUN OF THE DEAD, DOOMSDAY, GAME OF THRONES, and DR WHO. Dan will be in conversation with FRANKENHOOKER superfan and longtime friend of BAR TRASH, the legendary drag king, comedian and costumier, Loose Willis.

Polite notice: We are projecting FRANKENHOOKER with subtitles from the best available digital source. Dan Frye’s appearance is subject to work commitments.

/// BAR TRASH is a celebration of cult and curious cinema, hosted by queer film fanatic Token Homo and friends.
